That's why I decided to put the KAILAS Hurricane Hiking Backpack to the test, and I'm excited to share my thoughts on this impressive pack. After testing out the 26L version in a beautiful Sea Green, color here's my full review.

My Thoughts On The Kailas Hurricane Hiking Backpack
I’ve been testing out the Kailas Hurricane Hiking Backpack, and I’m genuinely excited about all the features it offers. Whether you’re going on a short day hike or heading out on a more technical trail, this pack has you covered.
Hands down, one of my favorite features of the Kailas Hurricane Backpack is the deep, stretchy side pockets. I’ve had way too many moments where my 32oz water bottle fell out of my pack—like when it bounced down the stairs at Diamond Head in Hawaii and nearly took out a bunch of people behind me. Super embarrassing. The side pockets on this pack are just the right depth to securely hold my water bottle or bear spray without worrying about them falling out. They’re roomy enough to fit my water bottle snugly, and I can still get to my gear easily without messing around.
Another big win for me is the breathable suspension system design. My back stayed cool throughout the hike, and the ergonomic belt helped distribute the weight evenly, which relieved pressure on my shoulders and is something I really appreciate on longer hikes.
After tearing my ACL, I’ve been on a mission to reduce pack weight, so I was thrilled to test out the Kailas Hurricane Backpack. The 26-liter version weighs just 1.98 pounds, and the smaller 22-liter is even lighter at 1.37 pounds. That’s way lighter than a lot of daypacks, which can easily weigh 3 pounds or more. It’s perfect for reducing pressure on my knees without giving up on durability or quality.
The 26-liter Kailas Hurricane Backpack has two large compartments, which is perfect for longer hikes or winter adventures. Over the years, I’ve been frustrated with my smaller daypacks, which are great for summer hikes but just too small for winter gear. This pack gives me plenty of room for essentials like a down jacket, outer shell jacket, ice axes, crampons, and even extra safety equipment. I love that I no longer have to choose between my bulky overnight backpacking pack and cramming everything into a small daypack. The Kailas Hurricane can hold everything comfortably inside, leaving me more organized and ready for any adventure. My only complaint for winter hiking is the lack of a second side strap for snowshoes, but overall, the pack’s size is a win for winter hikes in addition to summer hiking and fun vacation travels.
The hidden hydration bladder compartment is another thoughtful touch. I love not having to stop and take off my pack to grab my water bottle. With the hose port, I can stay hydrated on the go without missing a beat. The velcro strap to hold the water bladder in place is also nice it so far has been faster to attach than day backs with the tiny buckle.
The Kailas Hurricane Backpack is crafted from high-density nylon fabric that’s proven to hold up against rough brush, snow, and light rain. After several long hikes, I didn’t notice any wear or tear, which is impressive. This pack feels like it’s built to last, and I look forward to seeing how it holds up in the long term.
This pack is designed with a bunch of cool features such as loops for attaching trekking poles or ice axes. As someone who’s been getting into more rugged hikes, I really appreciate having those loops to secure my ice axe or trekking poles without any hassle. I’ve also attached my rock climbing helmet to the pack with no problem, and I can easily see someone using this for fishing too—just attach a pole and you’re good to go.
Overall, the Kailas Hurricane Hiking Backpack has quickly become one of my favorite packs. It’s lightweight, durable, and packed with features that make it perfect for both day hikes and more challenging adventures. If you’re looking for a reliable, comfortable, and feature-packed daypack, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a try!

1. Great Airflow For Your Back With A Breathable Design to Help Keep You Comfortable
One cool feature of the KAILAS Hurricane Backpack is its breathable technology. Similar to my Osprey Hiking Day pack the Kailas Hurricane pack is designed with a bow-shaped metal cradle that features a breathable mesh panel, which reduces contact between your back and the pack. This impressive suspension system allows air to circulate while you hike, helping to keep your back dry and sweat-free while you are hiking. I have had other hiking daypacks in the past that are in full contact with your back and I definitely prefer the hiking backpacks that use a bow-shaped metal cradle with mesh for increased airflow. This is a really nice feature for whether you're trekking up a steep trail up a mountain, or navigating a hot, humid environment on vacation. I am super happy with the design of this pack and how breathable the design is providing great ventilation while you hike.
2. Kailas Hurricane Backpack: Durability and Water Resistance
The Kailas Hurricane Backpack is made with 420D high-density nylon fabric, which helps it be lightweight and extremely durable. The material is tear-resistant, making it perfect for rough trails especially when you have to scramble up and over fallen trees or under them where a pack may snag on a branch. I definitely have gotten some rips in packs from tree branches and rocks so I am excited to see how this pack holds up over the next few years. So far over the past few months, It is doing great. The material is also a water-repellent fabric that helps your gear stay dry in light rainy conditions.
3. The Lightweight and Compact Pack Design Of The Kailas Hurricane Backpack
The KAILAS Hurricane backpack comes in two size options: 20L and 26L, both sizes are designed to keep weight to a minimum. The 20L model weighs just 1.54 lbs (700g), making it ideal for short hikes or daily use. The 26L version I tested weighs 1.98 lbs (900g), which is still fairly lightweight but provides that extra bit of pack space. This is especially great for those longer hikes or winter hiking adventures where you may need to carry extra gear like crampons, down jackets, ice axes, and safety equipment. Both pack options are lightweight and easy to carry, ensuring you won't be weighed down on your adventures.
4. Kailas Hurricane Backpack: Organized Storage for All Your Gear
Having a nicely organized pack can mean the difference between quickly finding what you need or dumping everything out on the side of the trail just to find a headlamp, those hiking gloves, or the one thing that always seems to disappear to the bottom of the pack at the exact moment you need it. I really love the many storage and organization compartments of this backpack—they did a great job with the layout.
Large Storage Compartments
The 26-liter Hurricane pack holds a lot of gear, making it perfect for longer hikes and traveling. The two large compartments can fit a Jetboil, so if I want to cook a hot lunch—like a dehydrated meal from Peak Refuel (Pesto Chicken) or Mountain House (Teriyaki)—I can easily do so on top of the mountain to warm up and refuel for the next chunk of trail. I can also fit my down jacket, rain shell jacket, and plenty of other hiking essentials like my first aid kit. The 22-liter has just one main compartment, but it’s roomy and would be ideal for summer day hikes or vacations where you want space but don’t need to carry as much stuff.
When traveling, there’s plenty of room for a 14-inch laptop, snacks, a jacket, and other essentials. Plus, there’s an internal security pocket to keep your valuables safe and secure—great for things like keys, your wallet, or sunglasses. These thoughtful features make this pack amazing not only for outdoor adventures but also for airport travel and vacations.
Stretchy Dual Side Pockets
One of my favorite features of this Kailas Hiking backpack is the dual side pockets. They’re deep enough to hold a large water bottle or even an umbrella, and they don’t risk falling out as I’m walking. I’ve had packs in the past where the water bottle slips right out, but with the longer stretchy side pockets, I don’t have to worry about it at all. It’s super easy to slide my bottle in and out without a struggle.
Front Elastic Kangaroo Silo
The front elastic kangaroo silo is fantastic when it comes to grabbing smaller items quickly—whether it’s snacks, sunscreen, or even microspikes when I’m navigating icy trails. It’s also perfect for attaching a rock climbing helmet, which is super handy. With all these compartments, everything in the Hurricane Backpack has a designated spot, making it way easier to stay organized and grab whatever I need on the go.
Large Zippered Hip Belt Pockets
Another Feature about this pack that I absolutely love is the large zippered hip belt pockets. In most of my other daypacks, I can barely fit a granola bar if I smoosh it in, or maybe just chapstick. Sometimes it is just one small pocket on one side of the hipbelt but not two pockets. But the pockets on the Kailas Hurricane Backpack are generously sized, almost like the ones on my overnight backpacking packs. I was able to easily fit 4 Granola Bars in just one of the two hip belt pockets and put other quick-grab items in the second pocket. I’m a huge fan of easy-access big zippered pockets because they allow me to keep trail mix, granola bars, or other quick snacks right on hand. I can refuel without having to stop and take off my pack, making it super convenient to munch on the go and keep my energy up.

1. Comfortable Fit with Adjustable Straps
The KAILAS Hurricane is super comfortable and has an adjustable chest strap that can be customized to fit different body shapes, ensuring a snug and supportive fit. The slider track to adjust the chest straps up or down was very easy to adjust. The ergonomic belt helps distribute weight evenly, reducing the burden on your shoulders and improving overall comfort during extended hikes.
2. Hydration-Friendly Design
The pack includes a hydration bladder compartment with a hidden hose port, making it easy to stay hydrated on the go. While the pack doesn’t come with a hydration bladder, it's compatible with most standard bladders, so you can quickly access water without stopping to dig through your gear. I was able to easily fit my osprey water bladder and hose through the hidden hose port of the pack.
3. Awesome Bonus Pack Features To Help Hikers
Designed with outdoor enthusiasts in mind, the KAILAS Hurricane backpack features two loops for trekking poles or ice axes, making it a great choice for those who tackle diverse terrains. As someone who is getting into more and more rugged hikes, I really appreciated the loops for attaching my Ice Axe and trekking poles. I also can attach my rock climbing helmet to this pack easily! Someone who likes fishing in gorgeous alpine lakes could probably easily attach their pole to this pack too.
The side compression straps on the Kailas Hurricane Backpack are perfect for keeping your gear secure. One luxury item I always like to bring on hikes is a small foam Therm-a-Rest Z-Seat Pad. It comes in handy when I need to sit on snow, wet logs, or sharp rocks along the trail. The side compression straps do an excellent job of holding the foam pad in place, ensuring it stays securely attached to the side of my pack and doesn’t fall out. It’s one less thing to worry about, letting me focus on the trail ahead.
The durable YKK zippers on the Kailas Hurricane Backpack work great! So far, they’ve operated flawlessly — no snagging or sticking, even when I'm in a hurry. These zippers offer smooth, reliable access to all your gear and they feel like they’re built to last.

Whether you choose the 20L or 26L version, you’ll benefit from its lightweight construction, breathable suspension system, and amazing storage space. While the hydration bladder isn’t included, its compatibility with most bladders, along with other outdoor-friendly features, make it a top contender for your next adventure. I really thought they packed a lot of nice features into this daypack. From the dual stretchy side pockets, and large hip belt pockets that were easy to zip and grab snacks to the large storage capacity inside the pack itself.
